To allow ro-ro vessels berthing at terminal 9 the construction of two berthing piers was planned, (40 m and 45.5 m long) so to create a loading bank perpendicular to the piers. Considering already existing structures and geotechnical characteristics of sea floors, as well as the necessity to work with easily removable temporary structures and to create construction elements suitable also for future interventions: the easiest and most appropriate solution for the construction of the piers was to set 4 rows of superimposed concrete blocks on sediment bed ( m 3.5×3.0×2.0 and 2.70×3.0×2.0, founded at -9,0 m m.s.l) and the construction of a steel deck with bearing beams IPE600 and glazing bars CNP400 as well as the casting of a concrete slab suitable for vehicles transit.
